Though the exact origin cannot be traced, the dream catcher has many captivating myths surrounding it.  The Lakota legend says that Iktomi, a great teacher of wisdom, appeared in the dreams of an elderly tribesman and took the elder’s willow hoop which had feathers and beads on it and began to spin a web.  He explained that the Good Spirit would filter away bad dreams and ideas and the web would catch the good ones to help the tribe lead a peaceful life.
